Mohamed al Fayed accused a senior Tory of "racism" last night after he called on the Harrods boss to be thrown out of Britain.
Gerald Howarth, the shadow defence minister, branded Fayed a "thief, crook and liar" in the Commons.
He used parliamentary privilege to launch the attack, saying he had caused "great distress" by making "absurd allegations" over the deaths of Princess Diana and Fayed's son Dodi.
He then called for Fayed to be deported a san "undesirable alien".
Fayed hit back and accused the MP for Aldershot of waging "a war" against him and hinted at legal action.
His spokeswoman said: "It is cowardly for an MP to abuse parliamentary privilege to insult an individual.
"He won't repeat his racist remarks to Mr al Fayed's face because he knows he will be sued for libel."
