A survey of public attitudes towards Muslim women wearing a veil is being carried out in Kirklees, West Yorkshire.
North Kirklees Interfaith Council has commissioned the survey, claiming there is a widespread misunderstanding surrounding Islam and those who wear a veil. Organisations in the public, private and voluntary sector in Kirklees are being asked if they employ Muslim women who wear a veil that completely covers the face except for the eyes and what attitudes are to this custom. It also asks how many complaints of Islamophobia or religious harassment have been received from Muslim employees/ service users since the July 7 bombings in London.
Respondents are also asked if they have any concerns about extremism or radicalisation in relation to Muslim employees.
