The Digital Paper Boy PDF Print E-mail
Written by Mu'hammad Waqas

Wouldn’t it be nice to have all your digital news delivered to your desktop?  Just like a newspaper.  Well know you can have a digital paper boy, namely RSS, do exactly that.

RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication.  It allows you to get the latest news or content delivered to a specific place like your desktop or a browser.

Many websites on the internet now offer RSS feeds.  All you need is a News Reader.  There are many free ones available on the net, just do a search and take your pick.  The next version of Windows, Windows Vista, will come equipped with a desktop news reader.

Some browsers come with built-in news readers so all you have to do is paste the feed URL and you’re ready to go.

RSS feeds can also be displayed on your personal website provided you stick to the conditions set by the provider.

At the moment most of the RSS feeds by major websites are free, however, as the technology grows and more people use it, expect the providers to start charging a subscription fee.  Understandable really when you consider that you have to pay for a normal newspaper delivery.
