Following the anniversary of the July 7 bombings which claimed 52 lives, the government has launched its new anti-terrorism strategy into the public domain. It comes after a year of consultation.

IN LAUNCHING THE new anti-terrorism strategy British Home Secretary John Reid paid tribute to those who’d been injured or died in the bombings.

“I would like to express again my personal condolences and I’m sure those of the whole house, to all of those who suffered as a result of the London bombings on 7th July last year. The First anniversary of those tragic events has just past, and we witnessed the very moving and solemn expressions of the whole nations remembrance.”

He also felt that dialogue between different communities in Britain was essential to stop such events occurring again. “Muslims and the wider community in the United Kingdom must also play their part if we are to be successful. Last summer’s ‘Preventing Extremism’ campaign showed what could be done when the government and communities work together, there were often differences of opinion, often arguments and discussion, but dialogue continued, and difficult problems were faced head on, not ignored or avoided”.

The new strategy has been launched and put into the public domain and outlines the British government’s four point plan to tackle terrorism.

In addition, from the 1st of August, the British government will give the public details of the five levels of threat posed by terrorists at any given time.

With these new measures in place the British government hopes they will help reduce the risk of terror attacks and keep the public informed about the level of threat they may be facing at any time.
