On a bright sunny Sunday 30th July 2006, over a thousand Muslims marched to voice their condemnation of the destruction, killing and occupation of Southern Lebanon.

Demonstrators condemned the rulers of the Muslim world for their complicity in Israel’s crimes through their silence and inaction. One of the messages from the march was the calling of the armies of Muslim countries to defend the people of Lebanon from this massacre and to unify the Muslim world through the re-establishment of the Islamic Khilafah.

Dr. Imran Waheed, a media representative of Hizb ut-Tahrir, Britain, one of the groups organising the demonstration, addressed the gathering. He mentioned that had Beirut been a European City, Western Governments would have moved to halt the massacres immediately.  He exposed the hypocrisy of these Western Governments, who talk about human rights and international law, whilst allowing the likes of Israel to continue spilling the blood of innocent civilians.

‘Stop Political Terror’ Representative Asim Qureshi gave a stirring speech. He stated that all Muslims who support the right of the Muslims of all occupied lands such as Lebanon, Palestine, Chechnya, Iraq and Kashmir to not only defend themselves and expel occupiers would be considered terrorists.  He also mentioned that the actions of all Muslims are consequential and our inaction to even speak out against the atrocities of the world would allow such acts to continue. He commented about Muslims in Britain turning up to the demonstration, which aroused the crowd, shouting Takbir (God is Great). He said clearly attending the demonstration was the least of our obligations. He added that instead of having one or two thousand Muslims present at the demonstration, there should be at least two million.  Asim Qureshi finished his speech by reminding the people that simply having belief in Allah is not enough to end the Muslims’ suffering globally since even the devil believes in God, what is required is to act upon that belief and to remain steadfast to the truth.

Hussein. A member of Hizb-ut-Tahrir. Majid Hussain was arrested in Cairo by the Egyptian authorities and taken to a secret location where he was brutally tortured for addressing Muslims about the duty to unify the Ummah under a single banner. He subsequently spent 5 years in an Egyptian prison. He re-iterated the points made by previous speakers. However, he added that Allah promised the Muslims that they would subdue an over-powering Jewish entity and re-enter the holy land lands of Al Quds.

The demonstration was joined by a group of Orthodox Jewish Rabbis, holding banners condemning the existence of the Zionist State and its continued brutality against its weaker neighbouring states. They also suggested that they would be content to live in a State that ruled by the Islamic Sharia.

The demonstration proceeded with the attendees marching from Marble Arch to the Regents Park Mosque. Throughout this time the demonstrators repeated chants condemning the Zionist State, the Western Governments and the Muslim rulers.
