Dear Editor Assalaamu alaikum, In response to the article dated in December 2005, "where are the fathers?" I must commend you on touching upon this taboo topic. Everything you wrote in that article speaks the truth which never gets raised within our (Asian) culture. The misconception of the absence of fathers in their offsprings lives is due to the superiority the male holds within such cultures. Yes truth be it that women are not equal to men in the sense that Hawaa (Eve) was made from the ribs of Adam (pbuh), if Allah SWT wanted both men and women to be equal this difference would not have been. Yet many fathers take advantage of this school of thought and twist it to their advantage by burdening the mothers with full responsibility and fail to abide by the laws of Islam. The test you put in the paper was completed correctly by myself yet the father failed to answer one question correctly, now that is a cause for concern. I just pray that these fathers come to their senses and be there for their children, as one day we are all going to grow old and if the fathers are not there for their children now, what guarantee will they have in being looked after by their children in their old age? Mrs N. Ahmed
